This Is How We Do It Working Smarter

Jun 21, 2025 | Thoughts & Musings

To work smart means to maximize the value of your work by selecting a few activities and applying an intense targeted effort. Do less, obsess, and preform. We often disparage obsessions in our daily lives, viewing them as dangerous or debilitating. But obsession can be a productive force.

“It’s not about hours you put in; it’s about what you put in those hours.”
-Jim Rohn

“Focus on being productive instead of busy.”
-Tim Ferriss

“Be obsessed or be average.”
-Anonymous

“Those who work hard, work alone. Those who work smart, work as a team.”
-Samuel Mbom

“Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.”
-Peter Drucker

You must absolutely believe in the power of hard work, but it must be consistently aligned with smart work, or the efforts can be greatly diminished.  As Jimmy Spithill, skipper of the Team Oracle USA says, “Rarely have I seen a situation where doing less than the other guy is a good strategy.”

You may not be as talented, or educated, or experienced as the other guy…but you can always try to outwork them. The challenge is to combine intelligent thinking to the equation. We can all work smarter. That’s the real key to success: working harder and smarter.

“It’s not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?”
-Henry David Thoreau

“Reflect on what you do in a day. You may have never realized how some simple, harmless activities rob you of precious time.”
-Vivek Naik
