Timothy Hay

The gold standard for small pets, Timothy Hay aids in digestion and helps wear down the constantly growing teeth of rabbits and true herbivores, such as chinchillas and guinea pigs. High in fiber, low in protein and calcium, Timothy Hay is perfect for your pet’s diet. Timothy Hay can also be used as bedding. The perfect hay for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, gerbils, hamsters and all small herbivores.

My bunnies love this hay. Very fresh and well packaged. I am happy that it has no dust like other brands.

Great fresh smell. Bunnies took to it immediately will order frequently to keep them happy! Packaged great and compressed so the volume is greater than it looks in the package.

Halfway through my first box of Grandpa’s Best and both my 2 piggies and I are very pleased.
1.) a good mix of buds and hay, without too much straw (aka eye pokes!)
2.) it’s very fresh – soft, green, and smells sweet
3.) No evidence of bugs. (I’ve had weevils & moths from previous pet store purchases)
4.) Neat and tidy packaging is a winner! Love the 2 smaller bags instead of one giant one.
The bonus for me is the bales fit side by side upright perfectly in my storage container. The mini-bales take up much less space than the big bags from the pet stores and have less dust. It’s easy to peel off a layer of hay, fluff it up and feed the girls without making a huge mess. Smells so sweet and I also don’t sneeze as much. I was skeptical when I first saw the size of the box, and the 2 bags inside – didn’t think there was much hay in the package but it was heavy. The mini-bales are super compressed so there is a lot more hay than it appears at first. Hard to tell how long it lasts since at petsitters for Thanksgiving & Christmas but guessing approximately a bale a month since I received the shipment on November 11th and just opened the second bale on January 8th. I chose the subscription option so will see if this quality is consistent in future shipments. Fingers crossed no more running to multiple pet shops to find a decent bag of edible hay. The piggies give Grandpa’s Best 5 out 5 weeks!

My Guinea pigs love this hay above all others. I love the small compressed bales because they are easy to store. The bands holding the bales together are thick and may take something stronger than regular scissors to cut. The bales are VERY compressed and need to be broken up and fluffed but it is worth it to me. I have a large bin I keep the fluffed hay in so when I need another bale I break it up inside the bin and there is very little mess that way. Smells great and has very little dust!

We truly couldn’t be more delighted or grateful. Blink dug right into the Timothy Hay, and Betty couldn’t resist the fresh, green Orchard Grass Hay. So tasty you’ll catch them munching on it all day!!

Allergies? Buy this Timothy hay. The Orchard grass is even better for allergies, but my Guinea pigs don’t like it as well. They love this Timothy hay. I cut the straps, but leave the bale in the bag. It’s easy to pull out a section and get it into the cage with very little mess, dust, or loose hay flying around (unlike most packages where the hay is loose). My Guinea pigs love the stuff, and eagerly pull strands from the compressed flake. This remains my first choice for Timothy hay.

We ordered the 10 pound bale of Timothy Hay. This was our first time buying hay on Amazon and I was surprised at how heavy the box felt when it arrived. The bale arrived sealed inside a plastic bag, packaged like a big loaf of bread. The hay smells fresh and is good quality. The bale itself is very dense-I thought it would expand out of the bag when I cut the ties on the bale but instead, it remained intact and easy to work with. I was able to pull a nice little flake right off of the end. It really surprised me how much hay was in that flake after I fluffed it out for a few seconds. It made a nice, clean, soft pile of fresh hay! I think we got our money’s worth; this bale will last us a long time, and this is a really convenient way to buy hay!

I think this is an awesome, quality product that I will continue to purchase. I absolutely love that its pressed into a tiny bale. I can put it in a storage container with a lid to keep the mess down (vs that time i bought a 20 lb bale from the local farm store and it was huge and made an even bigger mess). Also, it is cost effective and as it lasts longer, I am being pro-active and not re-purchasing a bi-weekly plastic bag of hay from walmart or petco (less plastic is good!). As well, it makes me feel great to be supporting a small farm vs a large random company and low quality product.
