Choose Discomfort

Dec 28, 2025 | Thoughts & Musings

Discomfort is a driver of curiosity, innovation, and action. We may not always enjoy the sensation, but it can be a positive force in our lives. Numerous studies have shown that the world’s most successful salespeople actually thrive on discomfort. Let it be a positive in your life.

Think about this; When we’re comfortable, we stand still. There’s no reason to move or adjust our position. When we’re uncomfortable, we know the only way to improve upon our situation is to change. If we want things to get better, it’s up to us to make them better. Discomfort can do that. Work on getting comfortable with being uncomfortable (sounds crazy) because that’s when positive change can occur. Huge growth, great ideas, and world changing actions never happened while nestled in a security blanket, aka “comfort zone.”

As someone once said, ‘true development happens at the edge of your comfort zone.’

Harness your discomfort, step outside you comfort zone, and use it as a motivator. Don’t let discomfort paralyze you, let it catalyze you.

“If we’re growing, we’re always out of our comfort zone.”
-John C. Maxwell

“Do one thing everyday that scares you. Those small things that make us uncomfortable help us build courage to do the work we do.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

“Great people do things before they are ready.”
-Amy Poehler

“Growth and comfort do not coexist.”
-Ginni Rometty

“The comfort zone is nothing else but a graveyard for your dreams and ideas.”
-Anonymous
