The Benefits of Compressed Hay

The Benefits of Compressed Hay

Feb 27, 2023 | News

One of the many factors that sets Grandpa’s Best apart from other hay brands is our one-of-a-kind compressed mini bale. While we do offer boxed loose hay in 5-, 10-, and 20-pound options, our compressed bales are a great option to consider.

Compressed mini bales have many advantages. The first is that these compressed bales are “flaked.” Flakes are more representative of big bales right out of the field. It is also easier to measure the number of flakes pulled from a bale. Flakes can also be fluffed or left slightly compressed to satisfy your pet’s preference. Another major advantage is that compressed bales can directly fit into many hay feeders that are on the market.

Some of the biggest advantages to compressed mini bales have to do with space and cleanliness. Compressed bales require much less storage space compared to loose hay, which is perfect for pet owners who live in apartments, or have lots of hungry pets in their care. The compression process also helps minimize the amount of dust in the package, which many customers with allergies appreciate! Compressed hay is also less messy to prepare for your pet; all of the mess stays in the bag since you can pull the specific amount of flakes you want without removing any extra hay.

One of our customers put it best when she said: “I love the compact design. I am able to store this hay in a small area which is perfect since my six rabbits are indoors. I can easily break off a layer and put it right in their cage with minimal mess. With other bagged hay I am constantly shaking off excess so I don’t drop it all over the floor and end up sweeping more than I put in the cages. I can fluff the hay once it’s in their cage, but I choose to keep it compact to aid in wearing their teeth. They have no issues devouring this hay and they absolutely love it.”
