Stop, Start, Continue. Let’s challenge ourselves

Jan 3, 2026 | Thoughts & Musings

What are you going to stop doingWhat are you going to start doing? What are you going to continue doing?

These three statements come from a strategy framework that global companies and leadership teams use all the time because it’s simple, and it works, and it’s strategic.

What will you stop doing in the next year? And here’s what I want you to keep in mind. One of the fastest ways to change your life and level up is to identify what you’re going to quit. Winners quit all the time, because there’s a big difference between quitting something out of fear and quitting something because it no longer aligns with your values, it’s no longer important, or it’s no longer working. Winners quit bad habits, they quit patterns, they quit expectations, they quit jobs, they quit relationships, they quit projects, they quit obligations, they quit customers, they quit career paths that drain them. They quit all the time because they quit the things that keep them frustrated, exhausted, distracted, so they can actually move forward. Cal Newport, who’s an expert on time and productivity, said “Real productivity isn’t about doing more. It’s about focusing on what really matters. Subtraction before addition. Subtraction, because it creates room for what matters.”

What are you going to continue doing? Are you going to continue to make time for your family and your friends? Are you going to continue to learn about AI or do skill building, or improve on some area of your work life?

Final question. What are you going to start doing this year? This is the question where you get clear on what you’re going to begin. And remember, a start doesn’t have to be dramatic. Rediscover all the fun and the challenge of starting something new. You have no idea what you’re capable of. You have no idea what’s possible in your life. But one thing is for sure, you will never figure that out if you don’t find the courage to write down what you’re going to start doing this year and then make the commitment to start. And that’s how you create the best year ever.

“New goals don’t deliver new results. New lifwestyles do. And a lifstyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results.”
-James Clear

-Mark Twain

“Stop being afraid of what could go wrong, and start being excited about what could go right.”
