September Farm Update

September Farm Update

Sep 8, 2023 | News

We are thrilled to bring you the freshest updates from our farm. Life on the farm is always busy, but we are excited to be coming into the busiest time of year.

We are into the first phase of the corn harvest, and our Bestifor team is hard at work. Right now, things are slow as we work through finding corn ready to pick. While we have put the combines in the field, the bulk of the harvest will really get underway in the coming week as the corn continues to dry. This is a fun and busy time of year for us, and we’re hopeful for a bountiful yield. Now that the crops have reached the end of their growth cycle, we’ve been able to turn off most of the irrigation. Our carefully managed irrigation schedule has helped our crops thrive throughout the summer, but now it’s time to let nature take its course as we transition into the harvest season.

Exciting news on the hay front – our second cutting of Timothy Hay will be ready for baling next week and looks to be great quality so far. This high-quality hay is a staple in our inventory and is eagerly awaited by our customers. The timing is crucial to ensure we capture the hay at its peak nutritional value and quality. Once the field production is complete, we will hand-select only the highest-quality hay for your pets.

We’re keeping a close eye on our Alfalfa fields as we eagerly await the fourth cutting. A well-timed rain shower provided some major relief for the Alfalfa after a scorching hot week. This should ensure a great 4th cutting. Our commitment to quality means we’re always watching the weather, waiting for just the right conditions to produce the best hay for our customers.

In addition to our hay and corn crops, we also have a small amount of wheat acres. These acres are currently being planted this week. Wheat is a versatile crop, and its production is an integral part of our farm’s diversification strategy.
