Reminiscing About The Future Why are we so obsessed with the future?

Nov 11, 2023 | Thoughts & Musings

Because, as inventor Charles Ketterling has suggested, we will have to spend the rest of our lives there. If we can discern what the future has in store for us, we can better prepare for it. We can take advantage of what the future holds for us – we’ll know what decisions to make, what actions to take, and what course to follow.

Of course, the problem is that no matter how mystical or psychic we may be, no matter how much money we spend or how much we plan, it simply is not possible to predict the future. So, maybe there’s a better idea to consider – it’s a concept that may be even more worthwhile and powerful than the ability to predict the future. And that is the ability to create the future. When you think about it, isn’t that what we all really want? We want the power to shape our own future and live our lives according to that fruitful vision, as opposed to being helpless victims of fate.

Not only is the power to shape our future more valuable than the ability to foresee it, but it’s also something we can all do.
